Save On Groceries

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

There are many ways to save on groceries. Your grocery savings will depend on how determined you are on saving money each month and how far you are willing to go to save.

Coupons are an excellent way to save on groceries. They are located in several places. The most common places to look for grocery store coupons are online or in the newspaper. Dependant upon your newspaper, the grocery coupons will either be in the Saturday or Sunday paper.

Finding coupons online is the easiest way to save on groceries. The coupons are normally found on the manufactures website. Or, you can find a website that exclusively deals with coupons. These websites will either notify you via email or post the current grocery store coupons they find on their website.

The most effective way to save on groceries is to hold the grocery store coupon until it goes on sale. Once on sale, combine the grocery store coupon with the current sale item. It will give you the best discount on the product.

Everyone knows and gives the common advice of coupon clippings and purchasing generic brands of grocery products. What is equally important is to understand how grocery stores entice you to purchase groceries. To keep your budget down, it is also important to understand how grocery stores entice you to buy more than what you need.

First off, never go grocery shopping hungry. Grocery stores know that you will spend more money if you go grocery shopping hungry as opposed to going grocery shopping not hungry. It is one of the main reasons why the bakery is close to the entrance. The mouth watering scent of freshly baked breads and desserts will cause you to investigate the aroma.

Don’t buy on impulse! Take a grocery list of items you need in with you and stick to your list. Normally, the few items that you will need are scattered on the far corners of the store. Keep that in mind and stick to what you came into the grocery store to purchase. The longer you are in the store, the more likely you are to look around and purchase on impulse.

To save on groceries, always go grocery shopping during non-peak hours. It will allow you to stick to your grocery list and avoid all the temptation of buying unnecessary items by being in the store longer than what you have to.

If you want to spend less and save more, start following the tips and advice from above.

Grocery List

Grocery list helps keep us organized and focused when going into a grocery store. Without having a clue as to what we need, it is frustrating trying to remember what you need to get or trying to figure out if you still need that key ingredient for something that you are preparing. Ultimately, we end up packing our refrigerator and pantry with items that we will never use.

Once I complete my grocery list, I print off several copies. If you are anything like me, I misplace things all the time. Therefore, I print off several copies and keep them in a folder next to my refrigerator.

I have known a few people to print off one copy and drop it in a sleeve on the front of the refrigerator and add or refer to it as needed.

I have to admit. Sometimes, it can take me a bit of time to put my grocery list together. However, it beats the alternative of roaming the grocery aisles trying to figure out what I need and what I already have.

Here is a good tip. Go to Google and type in “grocery list template” into the search engine. Most templates will be generic. However, choose a template that fits your needs. For maximum efficiency, tailor it to your liking. You will only need to tailor your grocery list template the first time you use it. You will be amazed at how well a grocery list will help your grocery shopping. If you shop at more than one store, just tailor your grocery list template to the grocery store you plan to shop at.

By preparing a grocery list, you keep from duplicating the food in your refrigerator and pantry and save time and money in the grocery store.
